Panasonic started to sell its new line of 3D TVs through a partnership with Best Buy today, offering a bundle of a of 50-inch plasma TV, a 3D-capable Blu-ray player and a pair of glasses for around $2900. Consumers will also soon be able to buy similar set-ups from Samsung and Sony (sw SNE).

However, at least some of these devices won’t be available at Amazon and other online retailers. Panasonic announced that it’s going all bricks-and-mortar with 3D TV to educate consumers about the technology, according to an article from Marketwatch.com.

Approximately 40 percent of U.S. households will have a 3D TV set by the end of 2014, according to a new study from IMS Research.

The firm forecast 3D TV penetration to be much higher in the U.S., adding that worldwide penetration will only reach about 9 percent over the same period.

Meanwhile, surveys of TV producers and service providers around the world found most waiting for penetration rates of 3D TVs to increase further before ramping up 3D TV production.

IMS said by the end of 2010, more than 50 broadcasters and pay-TV operators will be offering 3D services to the home.
